As an economically well-developed province in China, Jiangsu is characterized by dense population, dense cities and dense economy. According to the officer of the Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development of Jiangsu Province, urban pocket parks have such characteristics: small in scale, flexible in layout, environmentally friendly and multi-functional. It is of great significance for optimizing and balancing the layout of urban green space, promoting the optimization and improvement of stock space resources, darning and expanding green public space, meeting the needs of residents for leisure and recreation, and improving the quality of urban functions. 1.Pocket parks are usually less than 10,000 square meters.

They can meet the needs of people for recreation and social communication, and has one or more functions, such as ecological landscape, sports and fitness, cultural display and convenient service. also equipped with corresponding service facilities. As an integral part of urban green space, pocket park is a beneficial supplement to urban park green space. It has characteristics like flexible site selection, various forms, practicality and convenience, and the area is generally less than 10,000 square meters.

According to the Guide, pocket parks can be divided into four levels: micro, small, medium and large. The area of micro parks is 100-400 square meters; Small parks area is 400-2000 square meters, and green coverage rate is no less than 50%; Medium-sized parks area is 2000-5000 square meters; Large parks area is 5000-10000 square meters, and green land rate is no less than 35% and green coverage rate is no less than 50%. In addition, pocket parks can be divided into four types according to location: residential community type, commercial and business type, transportation type and public service facilities type.

2.Pocket parks can be built in 6 types of land.

Where should pocket parks be built? The guidelines specify that pocket parks should be built on the following types of land: idle land that has not been used for a long time, or abandoned space; Small micro-plots vacated after the demolition of buildings and structures; Narrow, tortuous and irregular land between walls, buildings and sites; Small and micro green space with low utilization rate; Corner space of road and bridge; Space under bridge and other negative sites; Closed ornamental green space such as green belt; Small square with low utilization rate; Monotonous low vitality pedestrian space and other sites.

How to build a pocket park? The guidelines suggest that new pocket parks should be built around reserved small urban public Spaces, new urban public buildings or residential communities. Reconstructed pocket park should do overall improvement, partial transformation and courtyard opening.
