The concept of Southern Jiangsu Mode was firstly put forward by Fei Xiaotong, a famous Chinese sociologist, in the early 1980s, which refers to the development mode characterized by the wide prosperity of township enterprises in southern Jiangsu Province, especially in Suzhou, Wuxi, Changzhou, etc. It has been developed into a New Southern Jiangsu Mode since the late 1990s when the township enterprises underwent the property right reform in order to adapt to the radical changes of the market. The comprehensive New Southern Jiangsu Mode in the new millennium is characterized by an export-oriented economy and a share-holding economy, aiming at promoting the balanced development between economy and society and building a well-off society in an all-round way through entrepreneurial innovations.
