"Living heritage" is a concept originated from so-called ‘living monument’ put forward by Florence Charter in 1982. The concept was put forward by United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization's World Heritage Committee for protecting world heritage sites in the 1990s, and the aim is to emphasize the dynamic use and inheritance of cultural heritage within indigenous communities. It is embodied in the form of urban and rural built environmental heritage that still maintain the initial or historical functions. It mainly refers to the historical areas dominated by original residents, such as famous historical and cultural cities, towns and villages, historical and cultural blocks, traditional villages and so on.
