Symbolic Space

Symbolic space is the symbolic expression of space. In symbolic space, people symbolize the organization, structure, and relationship of space based on the simplification, association, and synthesis of spatial elements. Symbols include two types: tangible and intangible. Tangible symbols often refer to maps and intangible symbols refer to images. Therefore, symbol space can be divided into map space and image space according to its different expression symbols. The spatial range represented by symbolic space include varied scales from neighborhood to the world, but symbol space itself belongs to the “small-scale space” expressed by symbols and with proportional significance. We need to examine the spatial types of the symbolic space from a selected point of view.
