The theory of ecological vulnerability originated from the theory of ecological transition zone proposed by Clement at the beginning of the 20th century. Ecological vulnerability refers to a specific status in which an ecosystem is vulnerable to damage due to its exposure to environmental and social pressures and lack of adaptability. Scholars' evaluation of ecological vulnerability is mainly based on the evaluations of specific regions. The evaluation methods mainly include analytic hierarchy process, principal component analysis and those methods based on Remote Sensing and Geographic Information System.
