Landscape Heterogeneity

Landscape heterogeneity refers to the complexity of the spatial mosaic of different types of patches in the landscape. It is the non-uniformity and randomness of the spatial distribution of landscape structures. To comprehend landscape heterogeneity, it's necessary to first distinguish different landscape types, and must clarify the driving factors and scale dependence of landscape heterogeneity. Global ecology, regional ecology and landscape ecology are different levels of macro-ecological research. Landscape ecology focuses on the study of the spatial relationship of ecosystems. It regards landscape as a combination of ecosystems that are embedded and closely connected in space. The theoretical core of landscape ecology, as a heterogeneous thermal system, is ecological space theory, focusing on the maintenance and development of landscape spatial heterogeneity.
