Minimum Convex Polygon, MCP

2022-11-01 | UPSC

The concept of place attachment has been widely applied in urban planning and other disciplines, but only recently has been empirically measured using Public Participation GIS and related mapping methods. The minimum convex polygon method is a technical method for the investigation of place attachment. This method integrates map cognition and questionnaire survey, using the method of public participation in GIS to study the sense of place, draws lessons from the concept of the scope of home in biology, and adds the material and non-material of human life to the measurement. Brown et al. used the method of the smallest bounded region of all animal positions often used in biology to measure the perceived value of the landscape, which can be regarded as an individual spatial cognitive map. By expanding the scope of individual spatial cognitive map, public can participate in individual spatial map and obtain the perceived area of landscape.
