Balance of Ecosystem services

2022-11-30 | UPSC

Ecosystem services refer to all the natural environmental conditions and functions necessary for human survival and development, including all benefits obtained directly or indirectly from the ecosystem. They can be generally divided into four types, which are supply services, adjust services, support services and cultural services. The supply of ecosystem services is often interfered and affected by human demands and decisions. The ecological processes that constitute different services have competitive and utilized relations with natural resources and ecological elements, which makes some ecosystem services unable to achieve the optimal state at the same time. The specific manifestation is that there are certain mutual conflicts or promotion relations between distinct ecosystem services, and these intricate relationships are called the balance of ecosystem services.
