The space syntax theory was proposed by Bill Hillier in the 1970s. It uses topological thinking methods to quantify spatial relations, and then studies the interaction effects among society, space and organization. Individual spatial elements cannot affect social and economic activities completely, on the contrary, the complex relationships among the overall elements are the spatial factor expressed by social and economic activities, and are the key to influence and determine the social spatial characteristics. This spatial analysis method is often used at different research scales, from buildings to neighborhoods, cities, and even entire regions.
