Greenway

2023-04-12 | UPSC

Greenway is a type of linear green open space, which is usually built along natural roads and artificial corridors such as river banks, valleys, ridges and scenic belts. The greenway can provide landscaped recreation routes for pedestrians and motorists, and it is an important public linear space to meet the diverse needs of the public. The greenway theory originated in the 1970s as an artificially developed corridor that intersects with the landscape. The greenway is not only a green open space with natural landscape and leisure functions for pedestrians and cyclists, but also an open space link connecting parks, nature reserves, scenic spots, historical sites, and other high-density settlements. The greenway can be invoked as a high-quality ecological product to improve the living environment and promote green coordinated development.
