Carbon Neutral Organisms

Today, increased countries, regions and individuals are taking part in the endeavor of carbon peak and carbon neutrality to create a sustainable future for humankind. The Chinese government is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2060 by adopting stronger policies and measures aimed at peaking CO2 emissions by 2030. As a result, Professor Wu Qixing of Nankai University has proposed a new concept of "carbon neutral organisms", starting from the definition of carbon neutral plants, carbon neutral microorganisms, carbon neutral animals, carbon neutral population/community and carbon neutral ecosystem, the classification system of carbon neutral organisms was elaborated in depth. To maximize or enhance the carbon neutral function of natural organisms, it is necessary to build a large-scale carbon neutral biological ecosystem, including agricultural carbon neutral food crop system, low-carbon breeding system, carbon neutral wetland ecosystem, carbon neutral biological symbiosis or synergy system, and carbon neutral system based on environmental remediation.
