Thanks to the trust and appointment of the CNTERM, the UPSC started the editing of Chinese Terms in Urban and Rural Planning on the basis of two references-Chinese Terms in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Planning (1996) and Chinese Terms in Architecture (2014). Recent works of the UPSC also contributed to the success of the publication, especially the collaborative editing of Standard for Basic Terminology of Urban Planning (GB/T 50280-98) with the China Academy of Urban Planning & Design (CAUPD), and the History of the Subject of Urban and Rural Planning in China (2018).
The CNTERM provided a dedicated guide for the editing work in the establishment of the Committee of Urban and Rural Planning Terminologies, the design of work plans, and many in-depth discussions of issues during the book editing.
With the mobilisation of the UPSC, many experts and scholars participated and dedicated themselves to the editing work. Professor Liangyong WU, who is the winner of the highest national science award, an academician of the two academies, and an honorary chairman of the UPSC, was responsible for the consultation of the Sub-Committee of Urban and Rural Planning Terminologies. Deci ZOU, an honorary chairman of the UPSC and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, served as the chairman of the Committee. Three other academicians, Cui KAI, Ruizhu WANG, and Jia’an YE served as the vice-chairmen. Members of the professional group include chairmen of the UPSC, the Director of the Academic Committee and many passionate scholars in the field of urban and rural planning. Nan SHI, the Secretary-General of the UPSC, and Changhong QU, the vice Secretary-General of the UPSC, organised the work on behalf of the Academic Committee of the UPSC, they coordinated with experts from different research scopes for the selection and definition of the terms collected in this new book.
With the collaboration of these academics of Chinese urban and rural planning, the pre-published draft of Chinese Terms in Urban and Rural Planning was completed in June 2020. Following the review and approval of the CNTERM, the book was open for advice on the websites of the CNTERM, and media platforms, the UPSC for instance. According to the feedback obtained during the pre-publication period, the Committee of Urban and Rural Planning Terminologies edited the draft, and formally release the new book in April 2021.
