Congratulations on the 60th Anniversary of the Urban Planning Society of China! It is a monumental occasion that marks six decades of extraordinary urban planning theory, innovation and practice. Chinese urban planning currently has a leadership role in many fields including eco-city development, high-density urbanization, high-speed transportation, large-scale infrastructure, ‘smart city’ technology and many others. The next six decades will certainly expand these and open new urban planning frontiers with alternative energy, artificial intelligence, climate adaptation / mitigation, and emerging urban ecologies.
The UPSC Anniversary also coincides with the United Nations “New Urban Agenda” which will define global development for the next two decades. The International Society of City and Regional Planners looks forward to collaborating with the Urban Planning Society of China to realize the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and implement the New Urban Planning Agenda. These goals and objectives are both aspirational and challenging. I believe that-collectively-we and our international colleagues will be able to achieve them.
