I greatly appreciate the 'Learning City' project, which is a wonderful chance for me to design and associate with students from different discipline backgrounds. I would like to express my deep gratitude to all teachers who organized this project. City is complex, so building a better living environment needs participator from all fields. Professors from both China and Germany gave many lessons to us from different perspectives. In this studio, what's deeply impressed me is the process of analyzing stakeholders, market and business before designing, which Germany students focus more on. It is a very precious chance for students to change our present thinking model.
In this summer, we got a chance to visit Germany for about 2 weeks. We have gone to Düsseldorf, Berlin, K?ln and so on. The most surprising thing about German cities is that there are a lot of old buildings and heritage which were reserved and reused. Especially, in Düsseldorf, in order to get comfortable waterfront space and to protect people here, the road is put underground to cross the place. Compared with cities in China, 2 riverside roads are always built along the river So I think we need to learn to cities in German to give a chance to people to get close to water.
